The in-display fingerprint sensor has been one of the simplest additions to smartphones lately. However, people have often reported issues in unlocking the device due to the limited area which will sense fingerprint to unlock the device. And while Vivo is often credited for democratizing the technology, Qualcomm is getting to take it further because it is reportedly testing a replacement sensor that not only is quicker than the present sensors but features a larger testing area.

This new sensor is reportedly an improved Ultrasonic sensor that debuted with the Samsung Galaxy S10 series and may be found on the company's current flagship smartphones like Galaxy S20 series (except Galaxy S10e) and therefore the Note 10 series. consistent with sources, the new solution may be already under testing and is a 20mm*30mm Ultrasonic type fingerprint sensor.

It is reported that the sensor may only debut with the next-gen flagship SoC – Snapdragon 875 which will power the flagship smartphones beginning in 2021. This new sensor is claimed to be faster than the present one and can have a way larger scanning area helping in unlocking the device with higher accuracy.

GizmoChina also reports about the existence of yet one more sensor which will increase the safety of your smartphone several notches high. this is often called the 2nd-gen 3D Sonic Max fingerprint sensor and may identify two-different fingerprints at an equivalent time. this may allow users to use both the thumbs, for instance, at an equivalent time to be ready to unlock the phone.

While the blog hints that Samsung Galaxy Note 20, that's scheduled to launch in August this year, may feature this new 3D Sonic Max fingerprint sensor, however, it's way too early to predict this.
